Antioch High School in Tennessee, USA, was the scene of a tragic shooting on January 22, 2025. A 17-year-old student, Solomon Henderson, started to fire a gun at the school’s cafeteria with the bullet that killed 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante and also injured another student . Later on, Henderson also put an end to his own life.
The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, but authorities have found a manifesto uploaded by Henderson to Instagram, which contained racial hatred and sadistic phrases. The shooter’s online history also showed praise for mass shooters and far-right beliefs.
The occurrence was such that it caused an uproar in the entire community. Both the Governor, Bill Lee, and other authorities openly expressed their condemnation of the violent incident . Moreover, The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools district also, declared an initiative to engage in counseling as well as reaching out with concern and support to its students and families who are impacted by it.
Moreover, the rest of the week was closed for a vigil to honor the victims. The community is providing support and aid to those who have suffered, with facilities such as mental health service centers and counseling.
